What is orgasm?
Orgasm (the climax of sexual excitement) is an intense feeling of sexual pleasure that happens during sexual activity. It’s sometimes called ‘coming’ or climaxing, and both men and women have orgasms. In orgasm, the mounted sexual pleasure is suddenly discharged, and accompanied by muscular contractions in the pelvic region.
What happens during an orgasm?
When you have an orgasm, your heart beats faster and your breathing gets quicker and heavier.
In women, it results from clitoral stimulation either by sexual penetration of man, or by masturbation producing an intense, pleasurable release of sexual tension accompanied by contractions of the genital muscles. A woman may have more than one orgasm if she continues to be stimulated.
In men, it usually results from stimulation of the penis, by vaginal penetration or masturbation. This produces muscle contractions which cause semen containing sperm to spurt out of the penis (ejaculation). After this, there’s a period of time when a man cannot have another orgasm. This recovery phase, in which the penis and testicles shrink back to their normal size, can last from a few minutes to a few hours.
Some Differences between Male and Female Orgasms
Although similar in some ways, there are differences between the male and female orgasm.
· Men’s orgasm could be more a mechanical thing, not the same with females. Most males will ejaculate quite quickly if they have their penises rubbed. This could happen even in the most unromantic situations. However, female orgasm can only occur when the conditions are right.
· Women can often experience an orgasm for a longer period of time than a man, and the time required to attain orgasm differs in both.
· The intensity of orgasm experience are not the same in both male and female
· In general, women are more capable of having multiple orgasms. After the first climax, many women can 'come' again, often within a minute or two.
The female orgasm has the effect of sucking sperm towards the egg (the ovum) in the fallopian tube.
Orgasm in male
Orgasm experience in males is a complex experience, and there is still a lot about the male orgasm that is not entirely understood. The major function of the male orgasm is the ejaculation of sperm. It is important to note that not all men ejaculate during orgasm.
Ejaculation and the Male Orgasm
As noted above, it is possible to have a male orgasm without ejaculation.
· Many pre-adolescent boys may experience an orgasm without ejaculation.
· Some men do not have an ejaculation until several seconds after they experience orgasm.
· Some men, with some medical conditions and abnormalities are incapable of ejaculation, but are still capable of orgasm.
· Some men, may experience several ejaculations and go on to have further orgasms, but without ejaculation.
The orgasm experience in males
The male orgasm has both physical and psychological components to it. Many men experience orgasms in different ways:
Focal experience- This describes the orgasmic experience of some men who feel the orgasm in the genital areas and scrotum. Their orgasm experience may not extend beyond these points.
Extended experience- These individuals do not only experience within the genital areas, but their sensation could spread to some other parts of the body.
Generalized experience- This is orgasmic experience that spread throughout the body. The different experiences could be observed by same individuals depending of the degree of sexual stimulation.
