Okorocha swears in sister as Happiness commissioner

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has sworn in 28 new commissioners and 27 Transition Committee Chairmen for the 27 local government councils in the state. He charged them to prove their worth in the service of the state and her people. One of the commissioners sworn in by the governor is his biological sister, Mrs. Ogechi Ololo (nee Okorocha). She is now the state’s Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’ Fulfillment. Ololo, who is married to Chuks, an engineer, was the All Progressives Congress’ candidate into the House of Representatives for the Owerri Federal Constituency seat in 2015 and she has served in various capacities since Okorocha became the state governor in 2011. She had, before her new appointment, served as her brother’s Deputy Chief of Staff  and Special Adviser on Domestic Matters.

Facebook bans women for posting 'men are scum' after series of global harassment scandals

Following the multiple sexual harassment and abuse scandals across the globe, Facebook has been suspending women for “hate speech” against men after posting variations of the phrase “men are scum”.   Despite Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg warning of a potential backlash against women as scandals rock companies and political institutions, the social network continues to ban women speaking out against men as a group.   New York-based standup comic  Marcia Belsky  was banned in October for 30 days from Facebook for posting “men are scum” as a comment on her friend  Nicole Silverberg’s  photo album detailing the abuse Silverberg had received after writing a list of ways men can treat women better on Twitter.

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi says he will pay all salary arrears of civil servants cleared and the pension arrears of retirees before the end of 2017. Bello also said that he would commence prompt payment of salaries of workers the state public service from January 2018.

Israel health minister resigns over Sabbath rail works

The Health Minister, Yaakov Litzman, is a member of the ultra-orthodox United Torah Judaism party that helps keep Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition in power. Ultra-orthodox Jews object to work being carried out on the Sabbath - the Jewish day of rest. However, the coalition does not appear to be in jeopardy for now. A spokesman for Mr Litzman's party told AFP it had no plans to leave the coalition "at this stage". Mr Netanyahu, whose government has only a slim parliamentary majority, said all members of the coalition were in favour of its continued existence.

NNPC, FAAC to parley on Monday over discrepancies

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) will tomorrow meet to reconcile the discrepancies in data submitted at its last meeting. The FAAC meeting was last Thursday, called off due to discrepancies in the oil revenue receipt reported by the NNPC. The corporation has insisted that it remitted all the required funds to the FAAC, saying the challenge has to do with the interpretation of the data it submitted. Confirming the re-scheduled meeting, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division GGM/GPAD of the firm, Ndu Nghamadu told The Guardian, yesterday, “The NNPC is meeting FAAC on Monday. The NNPC remitted what was expected. There were issues that were raised on the data that was submitted. Hopefully, it would be resolved next week.”

Ikoyi Whistle-Blower Rejects FG’s N325m, EFCC Delays Payment

Yakubu Galadima, the lawyer for the whistle-blower, who informed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of the $43m, N23.2m and £27,800 (N13bn) recovered from an Ikoyi apartment, says his client will not accept anything below five per cent commission. Galadima said this during a chat with one of  Punch  correspondents on Saturday. The Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, at an event on Thursday titled, ‘Tracking Noxious Funds’, which was organised by Kent University Law School and Human and Environmental Development Agency, had explained that any whistle-blower, who helped the government to recover anything above N1bn would receive less than five per cent commission.

Malia Obama's boyfriend has been revealed to be a former British public school boy who met the former first daughter at Harvard University. Rory Farquharson, a former head boy at the prestigious Rugby School, was linked to Barack Obama's eldest daughter after footage emerged appearing to show them kissing during the Harvard v Yale American football game. Miss Obama started at the Ivy League university this Autumn, following in the footsteps of her parents, who both attended Harvard Law. Mr Farquharson began his studies at the university last year after completing his A-Levels, posting a picture of himself at the campus with the caption: "So it begins". To enable the army carry out this new mandate, the President has approved the request of the Minister of Defence, Brig-Gen.
