Nigerian Immigration Job Scam: Abba Moro & others sent back to Kuje prison till tomorrow for court ruling on bail
Former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro has been denied bail after appearing before a Judge of a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Moro and three others are standing trial for an 11-count charge bordering on abuse of procurement process and diversion of public funds including N676 million they illegally collected from immigration job applicants.
The three accused persons appeared on Wednesday before Justice A.I Chikere for hearing on their bail application.
The judge however adjourned the bail hearing till tomorrow March 3rd.
They have been sent back to Kuje Prison.
Moro first appeared before the court on Monday after being docked by the by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) over the tragic Nigerian Immigration recruitment scam in 2014 where over 20 applicants lost their lives.
Moro was arrested alongside Anastasia Nwaobia, a Permanent Secretary in the ministry and Deputy Director Finance, F.O Alayegbami, who allegedly facilitated the scam.
All the accused person pleaded not guilty to the 11 counts charge read to them.
At least 20 job applicants lost their lives during the recruitment stampedes at various stadia across the country.
The Jonathan government received scathing criticisms for the incident, but it failed to discipline the officials behind the unfortunate exercise.
Over 200,000 job seekers scrambled through a poorly organized barricade at different stadiums across the country.
