X Factor winner Sam Bailey said she felt her late father’s presence willing her to victory during the show’s thrilling final.
The 36-year-old beat teenager Nicholas McDonald in the series decider after being the odds-on favourite all week.
And weeping prison warder Sam paid tribute to dad Ronnie, who died in 2008 of mouth cancer – caused by years of drinking and smoking. He was just 58.
Choking back tears, the mum-of-two said: “I believe my dad is helping me out and looking over me. I don’t think I would have got this far without him. All this is for him.
“I can’t believe this, it is a dream come true. One of my biggest worries was people would get complacent and not vote but I did it.”
Sam’s mentor Sharon Osbourne added: “She’s the worthy winner, Sam has grafted, she’s paid her dues. She’s done the leg work, all the s*** gigs in the world. This is marvellous.”
