Two people died in ebonyi after eating poisonous fish

Two people on Wednesday reportedly lost their lives in Ezillo community, Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State, after eating fresh fish.
The third person was said to have gone dumb.
The victims, according to reports, were building workers.
A resident of the community who gave her name as Odoh Onyinyechi said that the victims while on a break from work, went to a near-by stream where they caught the fish.
She said: “We told them that these fishes are forbidden in our area because we don’t consume them and if you must eat it, you must remove the scale but I don’t think they listened to our advice.
“Before we knew it, two of the labourers died and one of them could not speak anymore. We don’t eat this particular fish species for any reason and we always tell anyone found with it to prepare it properly if you must eat it.”
The state police spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, could not be reached for confirmation as he was out of town on official engagement.
