A statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, indicated that “the committee will liaise with the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board and confirm the actual number of personnel to be recruited.
The committee will assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by re-advertising the recruitment into the NIS with a view to starting the recruitment process afresh.
It will assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by processing the applications, short listing potential candidates and conducting the necessary interviews for the purpose of the recruitment exercise and also assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by following all relevant laws, public service rules and guidelines, to determine successful applicants and announce their appointment into the NIS.
Another duty of the committee is to ensure that three family members of each deceased applicant from the aborted exercise, at least one of whom should be a female, are given immediate and automatic employment in the NIS and ensure that all those injured during the aborted exercise, are given immediate and automatic employment in the NIS.
The committee has 12 weeks to conclude this assignment.
An earlier exercise organised across the country on March 10 was marred by stampedes that led to the death of over 15 persons.
The Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro, said the situation was unfortunate, blaming poor crowd control for the cause of the death.
President Jonathan had summoned the minister after the exercise amid calls for his resignation by an opposition party, the All Progressives Congress and some Nigerian youths.
The minister’s name is not in the list of committee members selected to handle the new exercise
