An electronics merchant, Udoji Chike, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for being in possession of eight kilogrammes of Diazepam injections. The NDLEA also arrested an alleged drug trafficker for being in possession of 80 wraps of powdery substance suspected to be cocaine at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State. The discovery in Lagos was said to have been made at the departure hall of the airport while the suspect was about to board an Arik flight to Liberia. NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the injections were disguised as packs of Alabukun powder, an unregulated drug.

The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has approved the composition of a Special Presidential Committee to assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board to re-conduct the aborted recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The committee, set up on Wednesday, is headed by the Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission and has the Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service, r epresentative of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, representative of the Commandant-General, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and representative of the Comptroller, Prison Service as members. The Zimbabwean government is working on setting up an open prison to accommodate female prisoners with minors, a senior government official said on Thursday. Deputy Justice Minister, Fortune Chasi, told a parliamentary committee that progress on establishment of the open prison in Marondera, about 70 kilometres east of Harare was, however, been hampered by shortage of resources.

A stillborn jaguar was brought back to life after a dedicated vet gave it mouth-to-mouth. Dr Patricia Garrido gave the kiss of life to the jaguar cub, christened Ali, after it was found not to be breathing following a rare caesarean at a vet clinic in Madrid, Spain. New satellite data reveals that missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 “ended” its journey in a “remote location” of the southern Indian Ocean, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said today. “This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean,” a somber Razak said during a media briefing. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday in an uncompleted building along Eastern Bye-pass in Minna, the Niger state capital.
