As the Federal Government honours 100 persons today with Centenary awards as part of Nigeria’s Centenary celebration, some of the families included in the list have rejected the awards on behalf of their late fathers. According to the Fawehinmi family, they can’t accept the award because former president, General Ibrahim Babangida who tortured and dealt with their father while alive is part of the people on the list to be honoured. They also felt their father wouldn’t have been a part of it because of the recent $20 billion missing in NNPC and would have gone to court by now. The recent killing of 43 students in FGC, Yobe State was also part of the reasons listed. Femi Kuti also said, before they can accept such an award, if at all they would, The Federal Government needs to first apologise for killing their grandmother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and burning of Kalakuta Republic. Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain has written to congratulate President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Federal Government and people of Nigeria on the occasion of Nigeria’s centenary celebrations. In a written message delivered to President Jonathan late yesterday by Britain’s Minister for Africa, Mr. Mark Simmonds, Queen Elizabeth II conveyed her best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the people of Nigeria. “On the occasion of the Republic of Nigeria celebrating 100 years since the amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria, I send the people of Nigeria my warmest congratulations. “I have fond memories of my first visit to Nigeria in 1956 and again in 2003 as Head of the Commonwealth. “The links between our two countries have deepened over the past 100 years and I hope they will continue to do so. “I would like to convey my best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the people of Nigeria,” the British monarch wrote.

The Nigeria Labour Congress on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts at fighting corruption in the country. The congress gave the advice in a statement signed by its President, Mallam Abdulwaheed Omar, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Samuel Adesina Ajayi, has died according to sources in the Ondo State house of Assembly. The speaker whose absence from the state parliament has been a source of worry for over three months reportedly died last night at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos. The speaker has been battling with cancer for several month before his death. RIP!

A teenage girl was so brutally battered by thugs in the street she was left with a FOOTPRINT on her face. Kathleen McDade, 18, was left with two black eyes, a broken nose and a broken cheekbone after being set upon by a man and two young women. The thugs who attacked her then made off with her phone. Kathleen was cornered in her home town of Stevenston, Ayrshire, and punches and kicks were rained on her head. The trio assaulted her so savagely that as well as leaving her face covered in cuts and bruises, her left eye was left bloodshot and the tread of one of her attackers’ trainers can be seen on her head. The yobs then fled the scene – which is in an area of the town known as The Cross – with Kathleen’s mobile phone. She was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where she was treated for her injuries before being released

Last night the president of the federal republic of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan spoke about a lot of things including the current suspension of the CBN governor Mallam Sanusi Lamido, he stated that the governor has not been sacked but is on suspension, he also talked about the current terror challenges in Nigeria, Boko haram, in his words he said we shall get over it,he also mentioned about the current epileptic electricity state and that very soon things would get better but he never mentioned the exact time and statistics.

Uganda's president has signed into law a bill toughening penalties for gay people and criminalising those who do not report them. A government spokesman said President Yoweri Museveni wanted to assert Uganda's "independence in the face of Western pressure". US President Barack Obama has cautioned the bill would be a backward step. Mr Museveni had previously agreed to put the bill on hold pending US scientific advice. Homosexual acts are already illegal in Uganda.

The Delta State Police Command in Asaba on Saturday said it had arrested seven men, including a father and his two sons, for alleged armed robbery. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Celestina Kalu, stated this while briefing newsmen at the “B” Division Asaba. She said the suspects’ arrest was based on the alert to the security agents by their victim, who was robbed of N72,000 in the early hours of Saturday. Kalu also noted that the gang leader, of the same family, fled with the money stolen from the victim on sighting the police.

Rev. Cho Yong-gi, founder and pastor emeritus of Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea, one of the largest Pentecostal churches in the world, has been sentenced to three years in prison for embezzling church funds. Cho was found guilty of causing $12 million in losses to the church by having officials in 2002 buy stocks owned by his eldest son, Cho Hee-jun, at four times the market value, Yonhap reported on Thursday. The 78-year-old pastor, who founded the church in 1958, will also have to pay about $4.6 million in fines. The junior Cho will also be serving a three-year prison term for colluding with his father, the Seoul Central District Court ruled.
