FG Plans National School Feed Programme

THE Federal Government will soon introduce National School Feeding programme aimed at enhancing and sensitising school enrolment, address poverty, malnutrition and stunted growth. Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Arc. Sonny Echono revealed this at a Press Briefing to commemorate the World Food Day Celebration in Abuja. Echono stressed the need to create business opportunities in the rural areas and stimulate the growth of micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), adding that this would boost the incomes of farmers.

Tribunal Nullifies Election Of Governor Nyesom Wike

A three-man elections petitions tribunal in Rivers state has nullified the election of Governor Nyesom Wike and ordered fresh elections to take place in 90 days. The tribunal team led by Justice Mohammed Ambrosa said the election conducted on April 11 2015 which brought Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to power was substantially flawed as it was marred by violence.

Patricia, the strongest hurricane ever recorded, made landfall on Mexico's Pacific coast on Friday, a Mexican weather official said. "The eye of the hurricane has already made landfall in Emiliano Zapata" in Jalisco state, near the major port of Manzanillo, National Water Commission director Roberto Ramirez told Milenio television. He said authorities were still studying the strength of Patricia's winds but a few hours before landfall they reached a record 325 kilometers (200 miles) per hour, before weakening slightly to a still-fierce 305 kph.

The 5 suspected masterminds of the Nyanya and Kuje bomb blasts, on October 2, have been arraigned before a Federal High court in Abuja The suspects are; Andulazeez Muhazab, Ishaka Jimoh, Mohammed Jimoh, Abullahi Nasiru and Abulwaheed Nasiru. They were arraigned on a five count charge of conspiracy to carry out a bomb attack utilizing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), resulting in the death of scores of citizens and the injury of several others, as well as the possession of materials which could be used to make IEDs.

Oscar Pistorius has been released

 A South African official says Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison and placed under house arrest. Manelisi Wolela, a spokesman for South Africa's correctional services department, said the double-amputee Olympic runner who fatally shot his girlfriend on Valentine's Day 2013 was put under "correctional supervision" on Monday night. He confirmed Pistorius' release from a prison in Pretoria, the South African capital, in a cellphone text message sent to The Associated Press. A parole board at the prison where Pistorius has served nearly a year of his five-year sentence for manslaughter made the decision for the runner to be put under house arrest. It came after an initial ruling to release the athlete from prison in August was canceled at the last minute after intervention by the justice minister.

Lamar Odom comes out of coma

  Lamar Odom woke from a coma on Friday morning and he continued to show signs of improvement on Saturday, although the 35-year-old athlete is has not fully recovered Odom passed a swallow test, a promising sign of neurological function and an important step because doctors took out his breathing tube and needed to ensure he could swallow on his own. Lamar was helped out of bed for the first time since being hospitalized Tuesday night. He was moved with assistance into a chair and his breathing showed no signs of distress. He continues to wear a mask to aid the flow of oxygen but he's breathing on his own,the former L.A. Lakers star is communicating mainly with hand signals, thumbs up or thumbs down.
